The Life Changing Story of Awenemi Apogyanga – LEAP Programme Beneficiary
The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme is making tremendous impact in the lives of the beneficiaries. Awenemi Apogyanga from Sumbrungu, community in the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region is a widow. According to her, life became unbearable for her and her children after the death of her husband.
She was trained in weaving by Widows and Orphans Movement and was given a weaving machine. Money to purchase the yarn for weaving was challenging. After she was enrolled on the LEAP Programme, she has been able to save part of the LEAP grant and has bought yarn for her business. Now her business is expanding. She is able to use the proceeds from her business to supplement the LEAP grant. She has also been able to buy another weaving machine. Awenemi is currently training one person in weaving.
Awenemi is thankful to the Government for what she has done for her. She indicated that the government should expand the programme to cover those other people who are suffering.
